  New Plugins November 12, 2009

This is the first release of a 3D Studio Max ASE importer plugin. Geometry, materials (standard and multi-object), textures, UV coordinates, multiple UVsets, vertex colors, bones, and animation are imported. See the readme.txt file for more information.

  New Plugins November 5, 2009

This is the first release of an Unwrap 3D importer plugin for Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4 Extended. You can now import Unwrap 3D models directly into Photoshop. Geometry, materials, textures, and UV coordinates can be imported.

Other plugin updates:
  • Lightwave LWS and LWO plugins now import a second UVset.
  • Minor fixes for Metasequoia MQO and Collada DAE for v3.19 release.

This is the first release of a new Lightwave scene LWS importer plugin.

What are normal maps?
Normal maps are texture maps similar to bump maps. However, normal maps use three channels of information (RGB) instead of just one (grayscale).

How are normal maps created?
Unlike bump maps, which can be created by hand, normal maps must be generated using a specific tool designed for creating normal maps.

Here is an overview of v3.0 features:
  • Shared UVs. Create and organize UV islands.
  • New edge selection mode. Select edges in the UV Editor and 3D views.
  • Highlighted shared UV points and UV edges.
  • Highlighted boundary edges on the 3D model.
  • Highlighted seams in the UV Editor.
  • Orient/align UV islands. Automatically align UV islands.
  • Stitch/sew UV islands. Sew together discontinuous UVs.
  • UV Locking. UVs can be locked for tools such as LSCM UVs.
  • UV Marking. UV edges can be marked for easy cutting.
  • Interactive seam picking mode. For marking seams in the 3D views.
